LOW-FI WEARABLE STORYTELLING

When Eric and Kavan came to me, they had an idea for a friendship bracelets, but needed to know about snaps. What they got was experience and branding research, strategy, some grommets, and string.

They wanted to call it Faceband, but later settled on Wearshare, after learning about the storytelling potential behind their concept. My influence on the company’s direction can still be seen today, as research I conducted with teenagers around trust (photos get pulled from friends’ Facebook pages), creation, and use of the bracelets involved the packaging, messaging, UX, and overall materials used in the product.

Among other things, I

  • conducted qualitative research
  • designed our participatory design research plan
  • recruited interviewees
  • led stakeholder and user research
  • collaborated with product and UX design team
  • created concept models for bracelets
  • developed competitive analysis, design requirements
  • contributed to branding and core messaging guidelines

The grommet string approach that I suggested hinted at friendship bracelet nostalgia, lowered the cost of producing the product, and allowed for a simplified production plan (from 3 sizes to one size fits all).
